My passion: VOTING. Since 2016 I have worked just about every election run by the Denton County Elections Administration (DCEA). Serving as Presiding Judge on Election Day, or as Alternate Lead Clerk during Early Voting, I have helped DCEA ensure safe, secure, and trustworthy elections. I've served in the following locations: Justin City Hall, Denton Civic Center, Crossroads, South Branch Library, North Lakes Recreation Center, DISD Stevens Administration Building, TWU, and Denia Recreation Center. Consider serving as an election worker!
For 7 years I volunteered on the City of Denton's Human Services Advisory Committee. Our job was to help non-profits navigate applying for grants available from the City of Denton, then evaluate those grants, and make recommendations to the City Council on awarding grants. This public service opened up a whole new world to me: the often-hidden world of neighbors needing food, housing assistance, medical assistance, affordable child care, mental health assistance, transportation needs, and more.
I am a volunteer and Grant Writer for the USA's largest community garden: Friends of Shiloh Garden/Shiloh Field. You can usually find me volunteering out in the fields or with the chickens 2-4 mornings a week, year-round.
We understand the struggles faced by those experiencing hunger, and we actively work to make a difference. Our initiatives aim to provide nutritious meals and support to individuals and families in need, promoting food security and well-being in our communities. Taking action against hunger is not just a responsibility but a commitment to fostering compassion and assistance for all.
My husband and I have been members at First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Denton since Dec. 2001.
We are a church that relies on God’s grace and believes that the love of Christ compels us to care for our neighbors. We believe in feeding the homeless, repairing the homes of those in need, mentoring local students, and bringing God’s love to the places in our community and in our world that need it the most. We believe that everyone is a child of God and we strive to have open hearts, open minds, and open doors to God and to each other.
Each year I participate in a free concert by the Denton New Horizons Band, which raises money to support Denton Christian Preschool. Each year our Christmas concert raises over $2000 for DCP.
