Public Education

The voucher program pushed through by President Trump, Governor Abbott, and Lt. Governor Patrick is a terrible deal for Texas. Our teachers and education staff deserve to be supported by our elected officials and paid well. Our children deserve the BEST public education in the nation, and we have a responsibility to the next generation to provide this to them. Rural public school systems deserve the financial support and resources afforded to urban school systems.

Comprehensive Healthcare

Texas has the highest percentage of uninsured population in the US. Reasons for this include lower income levels, lack of access to healthcare facilities, and our state government's refusal to expand Medicaid. By expanding Medicaid, we can ensure more vulnerable Texans get the care they need while bringing billions in federal dollars back to our state. We also need to restore essential reproductive health care rights to all Texans, and remove the State from having a say in health care decisions between a person and their doctor.

Rural Water & Energy

Water and energy are fundamental to our Texas way of life. Without comprehensive legislated protections in place, our water supply is at risk from over development. Without state-wide water policies, new industries & new urban/suburban development project undermine our agricultural water resources. And without support for all energy sources, Texas energy production is at risk. The rural, agricultural, and urban needs for comprehensive state-wide water and energy planning and funding is a key priority for my campaign.

Improved Infrastructure

Wise and Denton Counties are experiencing rapid population growth and continued development, with projections indicating further expansion in the years ahead. Our infrastructure (roadways, safety improvements, regional water district plans) must adapt and grow along with its population. Using CBRS to bring broadband internet access to rural areas is a great beginning. But it is time to address the need for better multi-county transportation and water district planning.
